Watkinsville, GA-Angie M Eells casts her first vote as Oconee County State Committee Member.

Newly elected Chair of the Oconee County Democratic Committee and State Committee member of the Democratic Party of Georgia, Angie Eells cast her first vote for the progressive addition of an Environmental Caucus to the Georgia Democratic Party on Saturday, March 11, 2017, in Athens, Georgia.

The vote passed with 139 votes in support and 19 votes opposed.

The group, Greening Georgia, has worked relentlessly for 6 years to get the state party to recognize the
importance of focusing on Georgia’s environment.

Greening Georgia’s issues include clean water, clean air, clean earth and clean energy.

“I was thrilled to be a part of this historic vote at the State level,” said Angie Eells.

"As County Chair our first order of business this year was to survey members of our party on what local issues are important to them in Oconee County. The environment was at the top of our list. We understand that Oconee County has the potential to lead the way on solar energy. We will work hard to be pioneers of renewable energy in an effort to influence other rural counties.”

Eells noted other environmental concerns identified in the survey included county sewer issues along Calls Creek.

Angie Eells was nominated and elected as the new chairwoman for the Oconee County
Democratic Party earlier this year.

She was also a Delegate for Bernie Sanders for Congressional District 10 at the DNC Convention.

Ms. Eells has put forth an aggressive agenda to raise awareness of local issues, increase visibility of the Democratic Party, and to engage local Democrats to run for office.

The Oconee Democrats next meeting is March 21st at 7pm at the Government Annex Building, 1291 Greensboro Highway, Watkinsville. All are welcome to attend.
